As a wine club member, you will receive other benefits including free wine tastings for your friends and special ‘wine club only’ events. At Bluebird Hill, the customer always chooses the wines in the wine club purchase, choose all whites, all reds, or a mix.

VIRTUAL TASTINGS

Join owners and operators Neil and Sue Shay and taste through some of their outstanding whites and reds! Recently described as a "Rising Star of the Southwest Willamette Valley Wine Region” Bluebird Hill Cellars produces Pinot noir and Chardonnay along with other whites and reds typical of the region. Wines are made from both estate fruit and other lots obtained from select premium vineyards. Just in the past few years, Bluebird Hill has received gold, platinum, and double-platinum awards and 92+ point ratings in numerous blind tastings.
Neil and Sue provide a fun and relaxed atmosphere to their virtual tastings, with a focus on tailoring their events to the needs and prior wine tasting experience of the group. Tastings may include a virtual tour of the vineyard and winery, with a focus on understanding the qualities and attributes of wines included in the experience.

We are available for private and corporate group virtual tastings. Just give us a call to discuss.

WINERY

OUR WINES

Our wines are small-lot and handcrafted, and always will be, with a commitment to make distinctive wines from exceptional fruit using a combination of traditional and modern winemaking techniques with a focus on detail.  As our vineyard has matured, we are now making the majority of our wines from estate fruit, along with fruit purchased from select vineyards in the Willamette Valley and other Pacific Northwest regions.  Our Pinot noirs and Chardonnays have received an array of awards and excellent scores in wine judgings and festivals.  We also produce Pinot gris, Rosé, Syrah, a Syrah/Pinot Red Blend, and dessert wines.

WINE MAKING

Our reds are typically fermented in small lots with daily manual punch downs and pump overs to remix the fermentation and wet the dried cap. When fermentation is nearly over, we collect free run wine and press very lightly to collect the best wine possible for Pinot noir. After pressing and a brief settling period, wine goes into barrel for malolactic fermentation and aging.  All of our Pinot is barrel aged with weekly stirring for 6 months to improve mouth feel. Most unusually, our Pinots are barrel aged for a full two years in barrel prior to bottling to enhance mouth feel and roundness in the wine.  Reserve wines are unfiltered and unfined.

Our white wines and rosé are fermented at the coolest temperature possible to preserve fruit flavors and freshness, avoiding the ‘cooked’ flavors from out of control fermentations.  Pinot gris and rosé is bottled the spring following harvest, Chardonnay is aged for one year before bottling and is typically a 50/50 mix of barrel aged and tank aged wine.  Reserve Chardonnay ages in barrel for two years.

Bluebird Hill Cellars Library Wines

Since our first vintage of Bluebird Hill in 2014, we have saved wines to see how they age to help us understand our winemaking progression, and to have something to share with our friends and family when the wines reach maturity.  Quantities are limited, ranging from 1-48 bottles of each wine, and obviously are only available while supplies last.

Visit our shop for a list of library wines and contact our tasting room at (541) 424-2478 if you are interested in placing an order for one or more of our Library wines.
